S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, might just be the game everyone is talking about getting under their little Christmas tree! With a “built from the ground up” physics engine, called “X-Ray” this looks to be one of the most promising games of the year. The maps are gorgeous, by this I mean in all 18 levels you will cover 30 square kilometers! Possibly Far Cry worthy! And the graphics just simply look amazing! There are 18 levels that will no doubt scare some of us. The atmosphere alone gives me the shivers!

For those of you who don’t know what happened at Chernobyl, here is the lowdown. In 2006 A huge nuclear explosion happened. (Worst in history.) Some sort of tests may have caused it. There were some possible survivors, but there was no way to get them out. In 2008 the Zone exploded, killing people and animals, also destroying forests. Then an invisible force, tore living things to shreds. Finally stalker’s are sent in to find out what is going on. You are of course a stalker who is the one who has to do pretty much the dirty work. Set in the up and coming future, shortly after the Chernobyl disaster, authorities surround the area, but when they start hearing screams once again they send in the stalkers to do the dirty work. Don’t blame them, would you want to run into some place after hearing gut retching screams? Didn’t think so. But no worries, you are quipped with a nice arsenal of weaponry.

Realistic you may ask? We’ll besides blowing heads off mutated monsters, you do need things to survive. You will have a hunger meter, a radiation meter, and a weariness meter. You will even have to find places to sleep! How good you feel depends on how good you eat. Another cool effect they put in this game, are the day/night cycles! Day changes to night, and night changes to getting the crap scared out of you! RPG gamers may also like this game, because the developers were kind enough to toss some of that in as well.

Multiple endings? Yes, there are 8 endings! Each depending on your choices. When you encounter other stalkers, they will most likely try to kill you, or just harm you in any way possible! But, having the bigger guns will make you come home a winner! The max equipment you can carry is 20kg. and the maximum clips you can carry on your belt are 18. Depending on how much you do carry, it will affect your stamina, and how fast you can run.
